RESULTS 2015sElECtion of projECts140/53th Gijón International FilmFestivalgijón, spain20 - 28 noV 2015Gijón International Film Festival focuses particularly on alternative and auteur cinema. e fact that it started out as a festival for children and young people explains the special interest it has shown in younger audiences. For example, the section entitled Enfants Terribles isgeared to young people, enabling them to discover quality lms and develop their critical capacity. ere are also competition sections for feature-length, short, animated and documentary lms made by talented up-and-coming directors.In 2015 the festival celebrated its 53rd edition, which was aimed at bringing lmmakers closer to audiences through the usual sessions, press conferences and co ee meetings and by focusing more on masterclasses, workshop coursesand professional workshops taught by various lm professionals and targeted at the general public as well as younger audiences. is year Gijón Film Festival payed tribute to the ai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul, a key name in the thriving Asian lm industry who has also been hailed as one of the most original lmmakers in contemporary audio-visual production.
