Expo Floriade 2012

Expo Floriade 2012

Every decade since 1960 the Netherlands has staged the Floriade World Horticultural Expo. The sixth edition of this global event is being held from 5 April to 7 October 2012 in Venlo, a town in the Dutch province of Limburg right by the Belgian and German borders. The organizers expect some two million visitors, mainly from Central Europe, and the participation of around forty-five countries. The biggest horticultural companies from the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium will also be there, along with a number of municipal and provincial governments of the region.

The Floriade site covers 66 hectares and features two buildings of outstanding architectural originality, namely the Innovatoren, at the entrance to the site, and Villaflora, which will be hosting the indoor exhibitions and a major display of fresh flowers. There are also five thematic areas entitled Relax & Heal; Green Engine; Education and Innovation and World Show Stage, which will be the venue for the outdoor pavilions. These five areas are located in a unique natural setting and surrounded by woodlands.

Spain will take part in this edition of the Floriade with an outdoor pavilion in the World Show Stage area. The theme chosen on this occasion is the wonderful biodiversity which characterizes the country, showcasing the wealth of habitats and the agricultural and culinary resources they offer.

Una de las cosas que más llama la atención a los visitantes del Pabellón de España son los vídeos de las cabinas en los que se explican las áreas de producción de nuestro país y en los que aparecen recetas de platos típicos:

Ajo blanco
Patatas a la sidra
Alcachofas con guisantes y jamón
Fresas al vino tinto
Paella
Flan de plátano
Garbanzos con espinacas y champiñones
Sangría
Gazpacho
Sopa de ajo
